Floyd Mayweather will pay for the costs of George Floyd’s funeral, US media reported on Monday.
According to the report, the 43-year-old former world champion, Floyd Mayweather, has offered to pay for the funeral in Houston on June 9, and memorial services in Minnesota and Charlotte, through a mutual acquaintance.
The family has accepted the offer.
Floyd was killed last week in police custody sparking both peaceful protests and incidents of after-dark rioting that included arson, looting and clashes with police across the US.
Several celebrities have also jumped in on the protests, with Nick Cannon at the forefront and Jay-Z vowing not to rest until justice is served and human equality is restored in the US.
The 50-year-old rap star has personally called Minnesota governor Tim Walz to express his pain over Floyd’s recent death on the streets of Minneapolis, and to stress that justice needs to be served.
Jay said in a statement: “After our very earnest conversation, thank you to Governor Walz for doing what’s right and calling in Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case.
