DJ Roxy Jones the radio sensation is shooting for the stars
When we speak of talent backed up with work ethic and class we think of DJ Roxy, a Zambian born entertainer who hails from the city of Ndola. With a long list of accolades; Roxy is a radio host who is a marvel on the red carpet, a voice over artist, video and audio producer as well as an esteemed brand ambassador.
At the seasoned age of 30, Roxy is born to the veteran DJ Micheal ‘The Space Kid Kangwa’ and her childhood dream was to be a broadcaster after she saw Doreen Mukandzo and Francis Ndovi reading the news so well. She pursued a Journalism degree in Public Relations at ZAMCOM and a Marketing degree at ZCAS. Roxy got her big break when she was put on radio by Kachepa Mtumbi, “that was my life changing moment” she recalls.
DJ Roxy pays homage to the late Augustine Lungu who was instrumental in her growth in the early days of her career. Roxy also saw herself working for Muvi TV through Lungu, and admits to not having an easy road to success and looks up to her mentor Chilu Lemba. She went on to meet Owen Rampa who helped her become the sizzling DJ that she has become. Roxy equates her success to her friends in the industry who always looked out for her on her bad days and will carry this kind of support throughout her career.
Roxy won the Best Presenter at the Mosi powered Zambian Music awards (ZMA) in 2015 the same year that she was hosting the Malawi Lake of Stars. Amongst her many accolades, she has interviewed the likes of the 16 Grammy Award winner Brian Mcknight, British Business Magnate & Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Charles Branson and Roger Federer (Swiss professional tennis player) to name a few. Roxy hosted Slapdee’s Coke Studio Africa where he launched his song with South African Gqom artist and poet Busiswah.
Roxy has also been able to grace many other stages in her country like the inaugural Zamfest, Miss Zambia, The Zambia international Tradefair, WWF Earth hour and Cassper Nyovest live in Lusaka just to name a few.
DJ Roxy is a firm believer in hard work and has gone on to be a renowned influencer and brand ambassador for different campaigns and produced relevant content all while MC’ing major events. Roxy recalls wanting to be known for her work and that is exactly what she is celebrated for. Many brands such as Flying Fish, Coke Studio and Casper Nyovest recognise Roxy’s hard work and have aligned with her brand to produce incredible work.
Being in the media for 10 years, Roxy has had many dips and high moments. She looks forward to accomplishing more of her goals and relies on the universe to keep pleasantly surprising her. She recently presented an award alongside South African music icon and humanitarian Yvonne Chaka Chaka at the Namibian Music Awards. DJ Roxy is certainly one to watch!
