“Nikita Kering is a rising star in her home country, Kenya, but she won’t stop until she gets to the top…” – BBC
“Of course, she is truly a revelation. She started in music when she was barely 9 years…” – Business Daily
Award-winning songstress Nikita Kering’ releases her first EP, ‘A SIDE OF ME’. This EP follows her recent massive single release ‘EX’, which created a buzz amongst her fans and music lovers.
The 7 track EP produced by SoFresh and arranged by Nikita herself, is a masterpiece, a compilation of what you’ve seen/heard and what you haven’t.
Nikita bridges relatable situations and experiences of other peoples’ stories by putting herself in their shoes, creatively coming up with a body of work that people could identify with. And in those simple words, ‘A SIDE OF ME’, Nikita Kering’ together with her team made a masterpiece that bloomed her artistic vibe and energy.
“Initially, an EP wasn’t part of the plan, but I realised that I needed to create a body of work that people could identify with me. I’m excited for people to see a side of me that they never have; hence the name.” Nikita said.
On her very short hiatus, Nikita said that just like every other person she has had her challenges, especially with the Covid19 pandemic.
“The challenges were many, however, the greatest was, not being able to work through the night. Honestly, my artistic vibe peaks at night, so the fact that I couldn’t work in the studio through the night frustrated me. But I guess everything happens for a reason…if not, I wouldn’t have made the single ‘Ex’ that people seem to like.”
Nikita Kering was born on February 26th, 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya, She has a sister and 3 brothers. Their parents Anne and Joseph Kering have always been extremely supportive of their children’s talents and education.
Nikita attended Riara Springs Academy, Kilimani Junior Academy, Nairobi Academy and Brookhouse International School where she pursued studies in Business Technology specializing in Music Performance, Business, Marketing and Production.
Nikita Kering is said to have been a singer from a very young age singing along to artists such as Emmy Kosgey. In 2012, she had a debut stage performance during an album launch by Emmy Kosgey where she got to perform to a huge audience and impressed them immensely. This was the beginning that gave her the confidence and a push to greater heights in her career.
She then spent a lot of time working on her music while juggling with school and made a name for herself. She is also an actress having performed at several plays and school productions
Nikita Kering signed up for Mr Eazi’s initiative titled EmPawa Africa and was impressively one of the top 10 finalists who were to undergo finer training and grooming for the international stage. This Initiative was one that Mr Eazi set up to improve the African talent exposure to global levels. Nikita became a finalist but could not proceed with the program as she was still too young. This opportunity opened up more doors for her as they promised to support and mentor her in her endeavours.
Her songs have received much admiration and accolades and she attributes this to hard work and the guidance of established artists such as Eric Wainaina who has sung several top songs such as ‘Okay’ and a popular ‘uzalendo’ song titled ‘Daima Mkenya’.
Nikita Kering bagged two awards at the 2019 Afrima Awards and made history as the youngest female Kenyan to make it to such heights. The sky is not the limit to this budding star who looks up to global stars such as Beyoncé Knowles Carter.
At 19, her musical journey is a milestone of a decade and she is truly grateful for all the losses and missed opportunities because things are seamlessly unfolding with time. As she rides uniquely on her wave and style, you should expect more from her as an artist. The show must go on!
To launch the EP, the hardworking songstress, also releases the visuals to the track, ‘Crossing Lines’ off this debut EP. Directed by Hardy Wambiakale, the ballad is one to take you through Nikita’s growth in the industry.
